  • 12/27/08 - Huge UGLY Thanks to all of you who came out and showed love during December. It felt awesome to be back out on the scene with guitars and a mic, and to see so many familiar faces that have showed support in the past. You guys are the reason I do this and I'm looking forward to a full year of shows and new music and opportunity in 2009. If any of you have any pics from the shows, please email me so I can post some footage on the web. To you and yours, have a wonderful and safe New Year and I'll be in touch very soon!

  • 11/25/08 - The big news from this end is that (if you haven't already heard) UGLYOGRAPHY IS FINALLY OFF IT"S ASS!!! There are two new shows (not open mics) to announce: The first is at Goody's Deli and Pub in beuatiful Downtown Hampton on Dec. 6. The Kneeling Drunkards and another guest or two will be joining me there. The second is an in-store show at Fantasy in Newport News. Do some Christmas shopping and check out some Ugly tunes. For more information on these shows, see the shows page. I've started blogging on myspace, and I will try to update this page regularly as well, but please check out my innermost feelings at the myspace blog If you are a myspace member you can subscribe to the blog by clicking this link.

Last but not least, if you have not joined the Uglyography mailing list, please do so here. I hope to stay on a roll with booking shows, and emails subscriptions are the best way for me to spread the word. You can even subscribe to snail mail if you feel so inclined.

Happy Thanksgiving to everyone! What are you thankful for? For one, personally, I am thankful for you support. If you are reading this, you mean more to me than you will ever realize! Have a great one and hope to see you out soon.

  • 3/9/08 - To those who check this site often: Sincerest apologies for not updating for so long. Shame on me! Truth be told, there has not been much good news to report until now. Lots has changed, and here is the scoop:

Uglyography is now once again a solo project. For reasons not worth explaining, I am taking the music out live by pre-recording myself as "the rest of the band", then playing over the CD with a single instrument and my lone vocals. So far, it is working out quite well. Big thanks to Sammy Ponzar and Lucie Snead for laying down drum tracks on these recordings. They are now as much as part of the band as myself, seeing that they are every performance with me! Because I only have about 20 minutes worth of music in this manner, I am currently "touring" the open mic scene in Hampton Roads, and will be very ready to book proper shows when I have enough music for a full set. There are many many new songs waiting for attention, but I will concentrate mainly on songs from Love Boat before venturing onto new ground. Check the site or join our mailing list to find out when I will be playing open mics around here. Thanks for checking in, and I promise never to wait 8 months between updates again!

Last but not least, big ugly thanks to Sam McDonald for a nice writeup on my first open mic at Goody's Deli and Pub. Check out his local music blog and the writeup at Toggle Switch VA. Thanks to my wonderful wife Maria, for her support and another blooger mention of Uglyography at her blog, Wasting Time (Mine and Yours).

  • 6/23/07 - We have finally signed on a permanent keyboard player (well, as permanent as they come in this business). However, she has not spoken a word nor told us her name yet. All we know is that she can tickle the ivories like no other and she is quite hot by most everyone's account, men and women alike. That is good enough for us! She has rehearsed with us nearly enough for Uglyography to begin playing out. When we asked her if we could count her for a first performance in August, she gave us a nod for a definite "yes."

  • 3/13/07 - Uglyography has found an AWESOME new drummer! He goes by the name of Slippy, and he comes to us from VA Beach. He rocks a sweet 23 cymbal Gretsch kit, although many of the 23 cymbals are mostly invisible to the outside world. He is flowing right in with us and will be ready in no time to be gigging and bringing uglyography to the area! Check back soon for pics and tunes...

  • 1/19/07 - Happy New Year! It's been a while since an update, but Maria and I have been busy moving into our new home (which is now also the new home of Steamy Attic Records, despite the fact that there is no Steamy Attic). On the band front, I am pulling together resources and finally booking a regional tour. We're shooting for early April, so keep your ears open for some dates in Hampton Roads, other parts of VA, NC, and possibly further. The lineup will be myself on bass and vocals, Dave on guitar and vocals, Sammy P on drums, and Lucie on keys. Sammy and Lucie will be traveling from DC to practice with us for the upcoming tour, and we're all very much looking forward to it. More news coming as it rocks us ...

  • 10/23/06 - It finally happened! Uglyography has received it's first HORRIBLE REVIEW for Love Boat! This is great news to me. After all, if every single person loved it, then the band would inevitably be thrown into an over-the-top bidding war between major labels and turned into nothing more than an overproduced money-making machine! Thanks, Punk Planet, for reassuring me that there is one less thing I need to worry about! Read the review ...

  • 10/18/06 - Big Thanks and Goodbye to Preston Tischbein, Uglyography's drummer. Preston was transferred to Vegas with the Air Force, and thus had to resign his role as the rockin drummer for the weirdest band in Virginia. THANKS FOR ALL OF YOUR DEDICATION AND COMMITMENT, PRESTON! WE'LL MISS YOU!! Of course, back at the homefront, this means that we are on the search for a new drummer. Drop us a line if you are a drummer or you know of someone who fits the bill.

  • 7/25/06 - Welcome to Uglyography.com version 1.0! I'm glad to finally have the site up and running, and hopefully everything is functioning as planned. As you browse the site, it would be a great help if you would let me know if you find any non-functioning features. If you find an error, please shoot me an email detailing the problem, and I'll do what I can to fix the problem. Thanks, and enjoy the site!

  • 7/20/06 - The Daily Press featured Uglyography in its Local Flavor Section of Music Quarterly. Huge Thanks to Sam McDonald for the support and promotion. It's not often that a band gets to say whatever they want in their local newspaper! Read the feature on The Daily Press Site or on our press clips page.

  • 7/8/06 - The jewel cased version of Love Boat is now complete and 45 copies have been produced. I've distributed CDs to several music stores in the area, including Fantasy, Relative Theory, Plan 9, American Oldies, and Camp Zama. I've also got the CD for sale on CDBaby.com, and part of their services include distrubution through iTunes, so look for digital downloads in the coming months. Most CDs will sell at the same retail price of only $5.00.
