Uglygraphy is the brainchild of 31-year old Matt Thomas. In 2005, in a steamy attic in an old house in the eastern part of Virginia, Matt toiled away for many hours and days on end. The result is Steamy Attic Records and Love Boat, the first release from the label. After feeling exhausted by his former band, Matt struck out to create music on his own. Somewhere between pop, punk, and a little bit of alt-country, lies the quirky music of Uglyography. Both the name of Matt's project and a word meaning "bad handwriting", Uglyography is a unique experience. Though Matt does indeed have pitiful handwriting, his songwriting skills demonstrate insight and passion. An album that is both heartfelt and true, Love Boat is a 9-song cycle detailing the end of one relationship and the resulting true love found in another, a tale of loss and redemption. Written, recorded, and performed entirely by Matt, Love Boat is a dream of reality.
Matt
takes Uglyography out on the town with the assistance of a trusty
rusty CD player, which serves as his faithful bandmate. Super
drummers Sammy Ponzar and Lucie Snead have been kind enough
to provide drums for the backing tracks, and are very much part
of the band, even as absentees. Keep an ear out for Uglyography
visiting your favorite spot for original music., and we'll be
keeping an eye out for you!
