New
Catalog Releases (12/31/08)
Wow - I cannot believe it has been two years since the last update.
Truth be told, there has not been too much happening in the steamy
attic. Uglyography has been moving itself along at a fine pace,
but as for the rest of the label, well, the site exists here, and
that is something to speak of, right? Because of the relative stagnace,
I've made a change to Steamy Attic Records: There will be no more
mailorder option. The cost of a PO Box was way more money than it
was worth, and most everyone in this digital age understands how
to place orders online, so Steamy Attic is moving right along with
the times.
More excitingly, I've added two new titles to the catalog. The first
is from my soul brotha Brian Barkley, better known on the West Coast
as B-Kutz Shakesdabuttz. He's been doing some extremely diverse
DJ work and has honored Steamy Attic with the privelege of mastering
and packaging his Mix CD, titled "Audio Therapy." It's
well worth the $5 for some serious shakin' n grindin'.
Also, I have digitized from tape, and remastered a release from
a band I was in about 12 years ago with my brother and two of my
best friends (B-Kutz being one of them). We were called The Grease
Sky Band and we drunkenly stumbled through VA in the late 90's screaming
and wailing sarcastically about all the problems in our town (forget
the world, we were local). If you were there, treat yourself to
a restored version of that tape that quit playing for you several
years ago!
That's all the news for now, but stay tuned. Oh, and of course -
HAPPY NEW YEAR to all of you! Stay safe and support local music
in 2009!

Goodwill
Performance (12/20/06)
Despite the lack of location and cooperation for a true fundrasing
event this year, The Fruitcakes performed at the VA Hopsital in
Hampton during dinner last weekend. Take
a look at a quick pic of the action ...

Happy
Holidays! (12/13/06)
Despite the apparent lack of news from the Steamy Attic front, much
is happening in the background. I have been working hard with the
band The
Touristes on an absolutely huge collaboration demo, complete
with several guitarists, several drummers, a tuba player, and many
awesome musicians. Keep an eye out next year for the end result.
In other news, the original Steamy Attic (yes, the attic itself)
will be retired within the next month. Maria and I are moving out
of our rental house and entering the wonderful world of homeownership.
Not to fear though, included with our 1941 home is a sturdy and
decent sized detached garage which will be converted into a much
more condusive recording facility. The music MUST GO ON !!!
The Fruitcakes have been rehearsing
for the Holidays, but unfortunately our attempts at holding a charity
performance have not been granted. However, you can still purchase
copies of Eaten by Elves through this website
or mailorder, and all proceeds will be donated to the Peninsula
Food Bank. Help promote the Fruitcakes by sending links to your
friends of the "Don't Be a Turd"
page.
From all of us here at Steamy Attic Records, we wish you the best
for the holidays. Be safe, and most importantly, savor the good times.
Happy Holidays!!!

Uglyography
featured as "Local Flavor" (7/20/06)
The Daily Press
featured Uglyography in its Local Flavor Section of Music Quarterly.
Huge Thanks to Sam McDonald for the support and promotion. It's
not often that a band gets to say whatever they want in their local
newspaper! Read the feature on The
Daily Press Site or on Uglyography.com.

Love
Boat
now available for dirt cheap!! (7/11/06)
I've completed a hefty handful of jewel-cased versions of Uglyography's
Love Boat, complete with paper artwork. You can get this version
for only $5 as opposed to the $15 I'm asking for the limited edition
wooden-cased version. The idea is to get the music into as many
hands as possible without losing money. To order, go to
the catalog page. Thanks people!

Smother
Magazine Reviews Love Boat (7/7/06)
J-Sin of Smother
Online Magazine has given a very complimentary review to Uglyography's
Love Boat. Smother is an excellent source for reviews and has
a very quick turnaround time for bands looking for a critique of
their CD. Check out the Uglyography
review at Smother.net.

Accidental
Texan Spotlights Stupid CD (5/5/06)
Former Virginian turned Texan Jacob Rothberger has featured the
track Stupid CD on his incredibly diverse mp3 blog. Thanks
for the Shout-out brother! Hear the goodness of his tastes in new
and old music, sometimes rare and sometimes deemed "unhip"
at www.accidentaltexan.com

Babysue
Review of Love Boat (3/1/06)
Big Thanks to Babysue
for being the first publication to review Uglyography's first record.
The author, LMNOP, writes an amazing amount of reviews each month,
and should be recognized for his dedication to writing about mostly
unheard music. Read
the review on the Babysue site ...

Uglyography
finishes debut album "Love Boat" (12/21/05)
After months of labor in the Steamy Attic, I have finally finished
the manufacturing of the wood cases that hold Uglyography's home
recording "Love Boat". Right now there are only 100 copies,
and it may be a while before more special cases are made. As a matter
of fact, there may never be another batch of wooden cases made.
These 100 may just have to be limited edition, and then I will surrender
to regular ol' plastic jewel cases. The music sounds great, and
I look forward to getting this CD out there to break some new ground
in Hampton Roads!
- The Fruitcakes
debut Christmas Album, "Eaten by Elves" (12/21/05)
For a month and a half during November and December 2005, the 8 member
ensemble, The Fruitcakes, wrote, practiced, and recorded a brand spanking
new collection of original Christmas songs in the Steamy Attic. The
album contains seven all new (very cheesy, or course) songs for you
to add to your Christmas collection and pull out when the holidays
come around each year.

Outer Loop
album released although the band is R.I.P. (12/21/05)
The Outer Loop officially died in May of 2005, after becoming majorly
ill around March of the same year. It just so happened that the
illness came right in the middle of the recording of their new album.
The tracking was never completed, and mistakes were burned to backup
disks permanently. Over 6 months later, I decided to go ahead and
mix what was recorded and put out the long-awaited, yet highly imperfect
album. Included on the disk are 2 old unreleased Loop tunes as well
as a live performance from the archives.
